The Michigan Panthers re-signed kicker Cole Murphy for the 2024 season on Thursday. Cole Murphy is six foot three and weighs 215 pounds.
The 27-year-old from Burbank, California, converted 14 of 18 field goals (78%) with a long of 51 yards, made 13 of 17 extra points (76.5%), and 40 kickoffs for 2,610 yards (65.3 AVG) in ten games for the Panthers in 2023.
The Panthers signed Murphy as a free agent on May 29, 2022. He made 11 of 12 field goals (92%) with a long of 60 yards, converted 9 of 11 extra points (81.8%), and 31 kickoffs for 2,098 yards (67.7%) in six games in 2022.
Before Michigan, Murphy went undrafted in 2018 and signed with the San Diego Fleet (AAF) in 2019 but never played a game. Then, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals but was released. He took two years off from football before joining the Panthers.
Collegiately, Murphy played four seasons at Syracuse University (2014-17) converting 59 of 83 field goals (71.1%) with a long of 53 yards, making 118 extra points, 162 kickoffs for 9,961 yards (61.5%) with 51 touchbacks, and 17 kicks out of bounds in 48 games for the Orange.
He was a two-time semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, presented to the nation’s top kicker. He was named First Team All-ECAC and Third Team All-ACC in 2017.
