The Edmonton Elks and offensive lineman Mark Korte agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2026 season on Tuesday.

Mark Korte is six foot two and weighs 293 pounds. The 27-year-old from Spruce Grove, Alberta, has played 13 games for the Elks this season. The Elks signed Korte as a free agent on February 8, 2022. He’s played 30 games and was the team’s nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman last year.

“Mark is the ultimate pro, ultimate leader, and ultimate teammate,” says Geroy Simon, Elks assistant general manager. “He’s been a great addition to the club on the field and in the community. We are happy to keep him home for the next three years.”

The Ottawa Redblacks drafted Korte in the first round (4th pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. He played 48 games for the Redblacks playing center and left tackle.

“We’ve been building something truly special here in Edmonton,” Korte says. “I’m excited to remain here and see this team take the next steps forward to our vision.”

Collegiately, Korte played four seasons at the University of Alberta (2014-17) playing 33 games for the Golden Bears. In 2017, he was Canada West’s top lineman and division all-star. He helped pave the way for Hec Crighton Trophy winner Ed Ilnicki to rush for a conference-record 1,468 yards.
