The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed wide receiver John Ursua, defensive linemen Brayden Thomas and Caleb Sanders, and defensive back Tedric Thompson to the practice squad on Tuesday.
John Ursua is five foot nine and weighs 182 pounds. The 29-year-old from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round (236th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played in three regular season games in 2019 with one catch for 11 yards. In addition, he played five preseason games with eight catches for 133 yards and one touchdown.
Collegiately, Ursua played three seasons at the University of Hawaii (2016-18) with 189 catches for 2,662 yards, 24 touchdowns, six carries for 12 yards, two touchdowns, and ten punt returns for 74 yards in 33 games for the Warriors. He was named First Team All-MWC in 2018.
Brayden Thomas is six foot three and weighs 255 yards. The 25-year-old from Bismarck, North Dakota, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He played two preseason games with six tackles and one pass breakup.
Collegiately, Thomas played one season at the University of Mary in 2016 with 25 tackles (12 solo, 13 assists), one tackle for loss, and two fumble recoveries in 11 games for the Marauders.
Then, he transferred to Minnesota State (2018-19) with 63 tackles (38 solo, 25 assists), 21 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 22 games for the Mavericks. He was named to the NSIC All-Academic Team in 2019.
After Minnesota State, Thomas transferred to North Dakota State (2020-21) with 55 tackles (37 solo, 18 assists), 18 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and one blocked kick in 22 games for the Bisons. He was named First Team All-MVFC and won an FCS National Championship in 2021.
Caleb Sanders is six foot one and weighs 287 pounds. The 24-year-old from Glenwood, Iowa, attended rookie minicamp for the New York Giants in 2023 before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played one preseason game for the Eagles against the Indianapolis Colts with three tackles.
Collegiately, Sanders played five seasons at South Dakota State (2018-22) with 137 tackles (78 solo, 59 assists), 42.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 66 games for the Jackrabbits. He is a two-time First Team All-MVFC.
Tedric Thompson is six foot and weighs 204 pounds. The 28-year-old from Inglewood, California, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round (111th pick) of the 2017 NFL Draft. In addition to Seattle, he played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans, and Cleveland Browns with 93 tackles (63 solo, 30 assists), three interceptions, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 38 games, of which 16 were starts.
Collegiately, Thompson played four seasons at Colorado (2013-16) with 174 tackles (133 solo, 41 assists), five tackles for loss, seven interceptions for 142 yards, 22 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick in 38 games for the Buffaloes. He was named First Team All-PAC 12 in 2016.
