The New Orleans Breakers announced on Wednesday that offensive lineman Kay Absheer has been transferred to the active roster from the retired list.

Kai Absheer is six foot four and weighs 335 pounds. The 27-year-old from Overland Park, Florida, started two games for the Breakers in 2023 before he retired on May 3, 2023.

The Breakers signed Absheer as a free agent on April 5, 2022. He started ten games for the Breakers in 2022. After the season, he left for the XFL and was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons in the first round (4th pick) of the 2022 XFL Supplemental Draft. Then, the Sea Dragons traded him to the St. Louis Battlehawks for TE Charlie Taumoepeau.

However, the Battlehawks released him and he later signed with the San Antonio Brahmas playing two games. He was released by the Brahmas and re-signed with the Breakers. Before New Orleans, Absheer spent time in training camp with the Ottawa Redblacks.

Collegiately, Absheer played 45 games in four seasons at Florida International (2015-18) playing left tackle and left guard for the Panthers. In 2018, he was part of an offensive line that only allowed a school-record-low eight sacks all season, which ranked first in Conference USA and third overall in the nation.

In addition, FIU’s offense finished a conference-best ranking in points per game (34.6), total touchdowns (58), total points (450), third-down conversion percentage (46.8), and fourth-down conversion percentage (65.2). As a freshman at FIU, he was part of an offensive line that gained 4,173 yards (fifth-most in school history), including 2,854 through the air (second-most in school history).
