Broc Feeney and Jamie Whincup win the Penrite Oil Sandown 500

Broc Feeney takes the win at Sandow on Sunday.

The Repco Supercars Championship was at Sandown International Motor Raceway in Melbourne, Victoria, on Sunday for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500.

Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus drivers Will Brown and Jack Perkins started the race on the pole with teammates Brodie Kostecki and David Russell starting second to make up the front row. Boc Feeney and Jamie Whincup started fifth.

Jamie Whincup started the race driving the No. 88 Red Bull Ampol Camaro. On lap 5, Whincup passed Jack Perkins for the lead and led the 50 laps before handing the driving duties over to Broc Feeney on lap 55.

With the pit stop cycle complete, Feeney had a 4.6-second lead over Jayden Ojeda in the No. 34 Truck Assist Racing Camaro, who stopped on lap 45. Shortly after, Ojeda went to pit road with Jack Le Brocq taking over driving duties.

Will Brown made a pit stop on lap 87, with Mark Winterbottom stopping two laps later. Broc Feeney, Brodie Kostecki, and Craig Lowndes pitted on lap 90. Shane van Gisbergen took the lead and led several laps before making a pit stop with Broc Feeney resuming the lead on lap 97. Feeney had a 13.1-second lead over Will Brown.

On lap 119, Brodie Kostecki passed Will Brown for second place. Several laps later, Kostecki and Brown made their final pit stops. On lap 129, Feeney made his last pit stop with van Gisbergen pitting on lap 130.

Brodie Kostecki was cutting Broc Feeney’s lead until Cameron Hill ran off the road course prompting a safety car on lap 140. Hill suffered a steering failure. Feeney led the field back to green on lap 144.

Brodie Kostecki had a look at Turn 4 for the lead but did not make the move on lap 148. Feeney went on to win his fifth race of the season by .9816 seconds over Brodie Kostecki.

In the back, Shane van Gisbergen passed Will Brown for third place after Brown lost the rear of his car on lap 154. Andre Heimgartner and Dale Wood wrapped up the top five. Feeney leads van Gisbergen by 155 points in the championship standings.
