Kyle Monangai scores three touchdowns to lead Rutgers to victory

Rutgers running back Kyle Monangai scored three touchdowns against Virginia Tech on Saturday.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0) hosted the Virginia Tech Hokies (1-2) on Saturday afternoon from SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights were 3-12 against Virginia Tech dating back to 1920. The two teams last met in 2012 with the Hokies winning the game 13-10.

Rutgers had 302 yards on offense. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt completed 7 of 16 passes (43.8%) for 46 yards, one touchdown, 11 carries for 87 yards, and one touchdown leading the Scarlet Knights to a 35-16 win over the Hokies.

Running back Kyle Monangai had 16 carries for 143 yards and three touchdowns, and wide receiver Christian Dremel had three catches for 34 yards and one touchdown. Rutgers’s defense had 78 tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery.

Virginia Tech had 319 yards on offense. Quarterback Kyron Drones completed 19 of 32 passes (59.4%) for 190 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and 22 carries for 74 yards. Running back Bhayshul Tuten had 11 carries for 45 yards, and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Da’Quan Felton had six catches for 84 yards and one touchdown. Virginia Tech’s defense had 53 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one pass breakup.
