The Edmonton Elks signed wide receivers Malik Flowers and Randy Satterfield, offensive lineman BJ Wilson, defensive lineman Emeke Egbule, and defensive backs Ja’Von Hicks and Josh Nurse to the practice squad on Monday.
Malik Flowers is six foot two and weighs 202 pounds. The 27-year-old from Fontana, California, had brief stints with the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks in 2023.
Collegiately, Flowers played five seasons at the University of Montana (2018-22) with 51 catches for 716 yards, four touchdowns, 16 carries for 251 yards, one touchdown, 92 kick returns for 2,659 yards, seven touchdowns, and one punt return for 11 yards in 52 games for the Grizzlies. He was named First Team All-Big Sky in the 2020-21 as a kick returner.
Randy Satterfield is six foot four and weighs 210 pounds. The 27-year-old from Orange, New Jersey, spent time with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2023.
Before Saskatchewan, he played three games for the Generals in 2023 with three catches for 34 yards in two games, of which one of them he started. The Generals drafted Satterfield in the 17th round (138th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft.
In the USFL’s first game in 2022, Satterfield caught the league’s first touchdown from quarterback Luis Perez for three yards against the Birmingham Stallions. Satterfield played nine games, of which two were starts with nine receptions for 124 yards and one touchdown for the Generals. Before New Jersey, Satterfield signed with the Roughriders in 2020 but the season was canceled. He returned to the team in 2021 but came up short of making the final roster.
Collegiately, Satterfield played two seasons at West Alabama (2014-15) with 29 receptions for 406 yards, eight touchdowns, one kick return for 26 yards, and six punt returns for 89 yards in 19 games for the Tigers. Then, he transferred to Cumberland University in 2016 but did not play a game for the Phoenix.
In 2019, he played one season at Lyon College with 47 receptions for 867 yards, 11 touchdowns, two carries for ten yards, 15 kick returns for 475 yards, one touchdown, 17 punt returns for 177 yards, and one touchdown in ten games for the Scots. He led the Sooner Athletic Conference in receiving yards (867), and touchdown receptions (11).
He was named an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, and as a First Team All-SAC selection at wide receiver and as a kick and punt returner. In addition, he was named SAC Newcomer and Athlete of the Year.
BJ Wilson is six foot six and weighs 320 pounds. The 27-year-old from Florissant, Missouri, signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May. He became the first player from Quincy University to sign an NFL contract. However, Wilson was released in August.
Collegiately, Wilson played five seasons at Quincy University (2018-22) playing 42 games for the Hawks. He received All-GLVC honors in the last three seasons, including two first-team honors in 2022 and the spring 2021 season. In addition, he helped pave the offense to two top-three finishes in the GLVC for total yards across the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Emeke Egbule is six foot two and weighs 245 pounds. The 26-year-old from Topeka, Kansas, was drafted by the St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL) in the second round (11th pick) of the 2022 XFL Draft. He never played a game for the Battlehawks.
The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Egbule in the sixth round (200th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He made 13 tackles (9 solo, 4 assists) in 32 games for the Chargers.
Collegiately, Egbule played four seasons at Houston (2015-18) with 164 tackles (98 solo, 66 assists), 13 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, eight pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries in 52 games for the Cougars.
Ja’Von Hicks is six foot two and weighs 210 pounds. The 23-year-old from Cincinnati, Ohio, played five seasons at Cincinnati (2018-22) with 197 tackles (107 solo, 90 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, ten interceptions for 189 yards, one touchdown, 21 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries in 60 games for the Bearcats. He was named Second Team All-AAC in 2022.
Josh Nurse is six foot three and weighs 198 pounds. The 27-year-old from Fayetteville, Georgia, attended training camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2022 and the Calgary Stampeders in 2021. Before the CFL, Nurse signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and later played two games for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Collegiately, Nurse played one season at Georgia Military College in 2016 as a wide receiver with one catch for ten yards. Then, Nurse played three seasons at Utah (2017-19) with 34 tackles (27 solo, 7 assists), two tackles for loss, one sack, six pass breakups, one force fumble, and one fumble recovery in 40 games for the Utes.
