Edmonton Elks release two players including WR Danny Vandervoort

The Edmonton Elks released wide receiver Danny Vandervoort and linebacker Caleb Tannor from the practice squad on Sunday. In addition, the Elks moved defensive lineman Luke Burton-Krahn from the six-game injured list to the practice squad.

Danny Vandervoort is six foot two and weighs 204 pounds. The 29-year-old from Barrie, Ontario, was released by the Elks on September 6, 2023, and re-signed with them five days later. Vandervoort had eight catches for 75 yards, and one touchdown in 18 games for the Elks in 2022. In three seasons in Edmonton, Vandervoort has 16 catches for 129 yards and three touchdowns in 31 games.

Vandervoort was drafted in the first round (3rd pick) in the 2017 CFL Draft by the BC Lions. He had one catch for 25 yards in 26 games for the Lions. In four seasons, Vandervoort has 12 catches for 154 yards and three touchdowns in 57 games.

Collegiately, Vandervoort played four seasons at McMaster University (2013-16) with 148 catches for 2,572 yards, and 29 touchdowns in 32 games for the Marauders. His 29 receiving TDs are the third most in U SPORTS history and was named CIS Rookie of the Year in 2013.

Caleb Tannor is six foot three and weighs 220 pounds. The 24-year-old from Stone Mountain, Georgia, signed with the Elks on August 14th. Before Edmonton, he signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent and attended rookie minicamp.

Collegiately, Tannor played five seasons at the University of Nebraska (2018-22) with 126 tackles (65 solo, 61 assists), 19 tackles for loss, ten sacks, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 56 games for the Cornhuskers.

In 2022, he was named team captain and finished the season with 43 tackles (25 solo, 18 assists), six tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 12 games.

Luke Burton-Krahn is six foot one and weighs 206 pounds. The 24-year-old from Victoria, British Columbia, appeared in three games for the Elks this season. The Elks drafted Burton-Krahn in the third round (23rd pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Burton-Krahn played five seasons at the University of British Columbia (2018-22) 60 tackles (36 solo, 24 assists), four tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in 26 games for the Thunderbirds.
