Toronto Argonauts sign four players to the practice squad

The Toronto Argonauts signed wide receivers Justin Marshall and Aaron Parker, defensive lineman Tyler Williams, and defensive back Daniel Valente to the practice squad on Monday.

Justin Marshall is six foot three and weighs 210 pounds. The 24-year-old from Conyers, Georgia, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He would later sign with the Seattle Seahawks playing two preseason games. He was targeted twice but made no catches.

Collegiately, Marshall played three seasons at Louisville (2018-21) with 36 catches for 544 yards and one touchdown in 36 games for the Cardinals. Then, he transferred to Buffalo in 2022 with 64 catches for 837 yards, nine touchdowns, and one kick return for 19 yards in 13 games for the Bulls.

Aaron Parker is six foot two and weighs 210 pounds. The 25-year-old from Prince George’s County, Maryland, signed with the Argonauts on December 28, 2022, and was placed on the suspended list. Before Toronto, Parker attended training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs. He played one preseason game against Green Bay with one catch for 27 yards.

Parker signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2020. Later, he signed with the Carolina Panthers and played one regular season game on October 24th, against the New York Giants. In three preseason games for the Panthers, Parker had five catches for 76 yards and one touchdown.

Collegiately, Parker played four seasons at Rhode Island (2016-19) with 216 catches for 3,443 yards, 30 touchdowns, 15 carries for 46 yards, one touchdown, and 12 punt returns for 109 yards in 44 games, of which he started 35 of them for the Rams.

In his senior season, Parker had 81 catches for 1,224 yards, nine touchdowns, and five carries for six yards in 12 games, of which 11 were starts. He is a two-time CAA Football First Team All-Conference and the 2018 New England Football Writer’s Association All-New England selection.

Tyler Williams is six foot two and weighs 295 pounds. The 24-year-old from West Palm Beach, Florida, signed with the Argonauts on May 16, 2023. He played one preseason game against the Ottawa Redblacks with three tackles and one pass breakup. Toronto released him at the end of training camp.

Before Toronto, Williams made 26 tackles (14 solo, 12 assists), six tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and one blocked kick in 13 games for the Demon Decans in 2022. Williams helped Wake Forest win back-to-back bowl games with a victory in the 2022 Gasparilla Bowl over Missouri. He had a least one tackle in 12 of 13 games, including eight games of two or more tackles.

Williams played five seasons at Wake Forest (2018-22) with 65 tackles (36 solo, 29 assists), 15 tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick in 44 games. In 2021, Williams made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) and one tackle for loss as Wake Forest had a historic 11-win season en route to the ACC Atlantic Division and Gator Bowl titles.

Daniel Valente is five foot eleven and weighs 176 pounds. The 23-year-old from London, Ontario, was released by the Montreal Alouettes last Thursday. Before Montreal, he was on the Ottawa Redblacks practice squad in 2023. Valente was drafted by the Redblacks in the fourth round (31st pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Valente played five seasons at Western (2017-19, 2021-22) with 100 tackles (75 solo, 50 assists), five tackles for loss, nine interceptions for 148 yards, two sacks, and four pass breakups in 35 games for the Mustangs.
