Lehigh Valley Phantoms get shut out in preseason opener

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms opened the 2023 preseason on Tuesday night against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from the PPL Center.

In the first period, Adam Karashik committed a boarding and roughing penalties at 11:32 which led to a power-play goal 19 seconds later by Austin Rueschhoff for the 1-0 Penguins with an assist from Matt Filipe. Forty seconds later, Lukas Svejkovsky made it 2-0 Penguins with assists from Evan Vierling and Justin Lee. The Penguins led 2-0 and led the shots 14-2.

After a scoreless second period, Matt Filipe scored which made it 3-0 Penguins with assists from Lukas Svejkovsky and Sebastian Dirven. With 4:54 left in the game, Justin Addamo scored for a 4-0 lead with an assist by Louie Roehl.

The Phantoms were shut out by the Penguins 4-0. The Phantoms had 11 shots on goal throughout the game, while the Penguins had 32 shots on goal. Lehigh Valley went 0 for 2 on the power play, and the Penguins went 1 for 6 on the power play.

Lehigh Valley goalie Parker Gahagen made 13 of 15 saves, and Nolan Maier made 15 of 17 saves. The Phantoms and Penguins will square off again this Saturday from Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza at 6:05 pm.
