The New Jersey Generals announced on Wednesday they have moved defensive back Blake Countess to the retired list.
Blake Countess is five foot ten and weighs 185 pounds. The 30-year-old from Owings Mills, Maryland, signed with the Generals on January 26, 2023, but was placed on injured reserve and never played a game for New Jersey.
Before New Jersey, Countess was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round (196th pick) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was released by the Eagles and later signed with the Los Angeles Rams. Countess played four seasons in Los Angeles with 54 tackles (38 solo, 16 assists), one tackle for loss, two interceptions for 19 yards, and three pass breakups in 37 games.
Next, Countess signed with the New York Jets and played six games. Then, he returned to Philadelphia in 2021 with three tackles (3 solo) in two games. He would also spend time with the Baltimore Ravens and return to the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. He is a member of the Rams Super Bowl LVI championship team.
Collegiately, Countess played four seasons at Michigan (2011-14) with 114 tackles (72 solo, 42 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions for 169 yards, one touchdown, 19 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 38 games for the Wolverines.
Then, he transferred to Auburn in 2015 with 71 tackles (44 solo, 27 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions for five yards, 13 pass breakups, one blocked kick, and three kick returns for 105 yards in 13 games for the Tigers.
