Penn State shuts out UMass for their fifth straight win

The Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0) hosted the University of Massachusetts Minutemen (1-6) on a rainy Saturday night at Beaver Stadium. This was the second all-time meeting between these two teams dating back to 2014 when Penn State won 48-7. This time, the Nittany Lions shut out the Minutemen to remain undefeated.

Penn State had 408 yards on offense. Quarterback Drew Allar completed 16 of 23 passes (69.6%) for 162 yards, three touchdowns, three carries for one yard, and one touchdown leading the Nittany Lions to a 63-0 win over the Minutemen.

Penn State running back Nicholas Singleton led the rushers with 15 carries for 79 yards and one catch for 8 yards. Tight end Theo Johnson led the receivers with four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Penn State’s defense made 63 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three pass breakups, and two touchdowns.

UMass had 109 yards on offense. Quarterback Taisun Phommachanh completed 6 of 14 passes (42.9%) for 25 yards. Running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams had 14 carries for 31 yards, and wide receiver George Johnson III made two catches for 24 yards. UMass’s defense made 64 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery.
