The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-2) hosted the Michigan State Spartans (2-4) on a rainy Saturday afternoon from SHI Stadium. This was the 15th all-time meeting between these two teams dating back to 1988. The Spartans were 10-4 all-time against Rutgers and won the last two meetings.
On Saturday, Rutgers ended the two-game losing streak to Michigan State. The Scarlet Knights had 295 yards on offense. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt completed 13 of 28 passes (46.4%) for 181 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a 27-24 win over the Spartans.
Rutgers were down 24-6 heading into the fourth quarter and scored 21 unanswered points to win the game. The Scarlet Knights are 5-0 at home this season. It’s their first 5-0 start at home since 2006 and largest comeback win since 2015.
Rutgers running back Kyle Monangai had 24 carries for 148 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Christian Dremel made six catches for 80 yards, and wide receiver Isaiah Washington made two catches for 28 yards and one touchdown. Rutgers’s defense made 66 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, two pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
Michigan State had 245 yards on offense. Quarterback Katin Houser completed 18 of 29 passes (62%) for 133 yards, two touchdowns, eight carries for 27 yards, and one touchdown. Running back Nathan Carter had 20 carries for 52 yards.
Wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. made five catches for 48 yards and one touchdown. Michigan State’s defense made 65 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and two interceptions.
