Four champions crowned at Road Atlanta

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship concluded the 2023 season on Saturday night for the 26th running of the Motul Petit Le Man from Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

In GTP, the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing’s Louis Deletraz, Ricky Taylor, and Filipe Albuquerque started the race on the pole. However, Filipe Albuquerque crashed with an hour left in the race and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

The No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing w/ Curb Agajanian Acura of Tom Blomqvist, Colin Braun, and Helio Castroneves won the race and the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac Racing Cadillac of Pipo Derani, Alexander Sims, and Jack Aitken won the GTP championship.

In LMP2, the No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA of Ben Keating, Paul-Loup Chatin, and Alex Quinn started the race on the pole and won the LMP2 championship. The No. 04 Crowdstrike Racing by APR ORECA of George Kurtz, Ben Hanley, and Nolan Siegel won the race.

In LMP3, the No. 36 Andretti Autosport Ligier of Glenn van Berlo, Jarett Andretti, and Gabby Chaves started the race on the pole. The No. 30 Jr III Racing Ligier of Bijoy Garg, Garett Grist, and Dakota Dickerson won the race, and the 74 Riley Motorsports Ligier of Gar Robinson, Felipe Fraga, and Josh Burdon won the LMP3 championship.

In GTD Pro, the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus of Jack Hawksworth, Ben Barnicoat, and Kyle Kirkwood started the race on the pole. The Vasser Sullivan Lexus team won the championship to start the race but in the fifth hour, Ben Barnicoat hit the Turn 3 curb which launched the car airborne and their race was over finishing in eighth place.

The No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG of Daniel Juncadella, Jules Gounon, and Maro Engel won the race over the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 of Klaus Bachler, Patrick Pilet, and Kevin Estre.

In GTD, the No. 27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin of Ian James, Roman De Angelis, and Marco Sorensen started the race on the pole.

The No. 78 US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracan of Loris Spinelli, Patrick Liddy, and Misha Goikhberg overcame three penalties to win their first race of the season over the No. 96 Turner Motorsport of Robby Foley, Michael Dinan, and Patrick Gallagher. The championship went to the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW of Bryan Sellers, Madison Snow, and Corey Lewis.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Series returns on January 27, 2024, from Daytona International Speedway for the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.
