The Memphis Showboats re-signed defensive back Nehemiah Shelton for the 2024 season on Monday.
Nehemiah Shelton is six foot two and weighs 185 pounds. The 24-year-old from Gardena, California, made three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in three games for the Showboats in 2023. The Showboats drafted Shelton in the seventh round (51st pick) of the 2023 USFL Draft.
After the season, Shelton signed with the New York Jets. He played two preseason games with one tackle (1 solo) and later joined the practice squad. He was released by the Jets on October 3, 2023.
Collegiately, Shelton played one season at Long Beach Community College in 2017 with 46 tackles (35 solo, 11 assists), three tackles for loss, four interceptions for 43 yards, and seven pass breakups in 11 games for the Vikings. He was named First Team All-Central League selection after helping the Vikings win the 2017 Patriotic Bowl.
Then, Shelton transferred to San Jose State (2018-21) with 146 tackles (116 solo, 30 assists), one tackle for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, six interceptions, and 24 pass breakups in 33 games, of which 26 were starts for the Spartans.
