Temple Owls suffer a blowout loss to SMU

The Temple Owls (2-6) hosted the SMU Mustangs (5-2) on Friday night from Lincoln Financial Field. This was the fifth-ever meeting between these two teams. The Mustangs had won the last two meetings. That streak would continue on Friday night when the Mustangs shut out the Owls 55-0.

Temple had 131 on offense. Quarterback Quincy Patterson completed 6 of 14 passes (42.9%) for 47 yards, and seven carries for eight yards. Backup quarterback Forrest Brock completed 7 of 15 passes (46%) for 60 yards, and one interception.

Running back Joquez Smith had four carries for 19 yards, and wide receiver Zae Baines made two catches for 27 yards. Temple’s defense made 88 tackles, three tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery.

SMU had 563 yards on offense. Quarterback Preston Stone completed 23 of 36 passes (63.8%) for 300 yards, two touchdowns, five carries for 25 yards, and one touchdown. Backup quarterback Kevin Jennings completed 5 of 6 passes (83%) for 58 yards, one touchdown, one carry for five yards, and one touchdown.

Running back Jaylan Knighton had 15 carries for 64 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Jordan Hudson made six catches for 82 yards, and two touchdowns. SMU’s defense made 42 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks, five pass breakups, and one touchdown. Roderick Daniels Jr. also returned a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown.
