The New Jersey Generals signed offensive lineman Micah Vanterpool and defensive tackle Olive Sagapolu for the 2024 season on Tuesday.
Micah Vanterpool is six foot six and weighs 315 pounds. The 24-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, played one preseason game for the New England Patriots in 2023. The New Jersey Generals signed Vanterpool on June 5, 2023, but he never played a game. He was later released and signed with the New England Patriots on August 12, 2023.
Collegiately, Vanterpool played six seasons at Hawaii (2017-22) playing left tackle and left guard in 45 games for the Rainbow Warriors. In 2022, Vanterpool was the only offensive lineman in the Mountain West Conference and 14 in FBS not to allow a sack in at least 500 pass-blocking snaps.
He was named Second Team All-MWC in 2022, and an All-Mountain West Honorable Mention in 2021. In 2021, he only allowed two sacks playing 11 games.
Olive Sagapolu is six foot two and weighs 341 pounds. The 26-year-old from Pago Pago, American Samoa, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on August 14, 2023. He played two preseason games with one tackle.
Before Philadelphia, Sagapolu made 22 tackles (13 solo, 9 assists), three tackles for loss, four sacks, and one forced fumble in ten games for the Pittsburgh Maulers in 2023. The Maulers drafted Sagapolu in the 24th round (199th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft.
In his first season, Sagapolu had 28 tackles (16 solo, 12 assists), six tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup in ten games for the Maulers in 2022.
Before Pittsburgh, Sagapolu signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Then, he signed with the Detroit Lions later in the season and was placed on the practice squad. After being released by the Lions, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons on May 17, 2021, but was released on August 24, 2021.
Collegiately, Sagapolu played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2016-18) with 61 tackles (31 solo, 30 assists), ten tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception for four yards, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 44 games for the Badgers. He was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2017.
