The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Friday that Lehigh Valley IronPigs pitching coach Cesar Ramos has been named the new bullpen coach, replacing Dave Lundquist. Ramos spent two seasons as the IronPigs pitching coach.
The 39-year-old from Los Angeles, California, began his coaching career in 2021 as the Phillies rehab pitching coordinator before moving up to Lehigh Valley in 2022.
In 2023, Lehigh Valley finished 11th in ERA (5.07), one complete game, seven shutouts, 31 saves on 67 opportunities, allowed 1,224 hits, 773 runs, 714 earned runs, 158 home runs, 85 hit batsmen, 734 walks, 1,207 strikeouts, a 1.54 WHIP, and a .255 batting average against.
Ramos played eight seasons in Major League Baseball with the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels, and Texas Rangers.
He went 10-15, with a 4.02 ERA, pitching 346.2 innings, allowing 346 hits, 166 runs, 155 earned runs, 35 home runs, 139 walks, 22 intentional walks, 268 strikeouts, 12 hit batsmen, one balk, and 14 wild pitches in 267 games, of which 14 were starts.
Ramos will work with current pitching coach Caleb Cotham and assistant pitching coach/director of pitching development Brian Kaplan.
The IronPigs open the 2024 season on Friday, March 29, 2024, against the Worcester Red Sox.
