The Ottawa Redblacks parted ways with assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Khari Jones on Friday.
“On behalf of the Ottawa Redblacks, I’d like to thank Khari Jones for his contributions to our organization and his professionalism over the last year,” said Head Coach Bob Dyce. “Coach Jones gives everything he has to his role as a coach in the CFL, and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career.”
This season, the Redblacks finished with a 4-14 record. The offense finished sixth in points per game (20.7), tied seventh in touchdowns (33), ninth in net offense (318.8), ninth in quarterback rating (82.1), tied eighth in turnovers (47), ninth in sacks allowed (71), and second in average rushing yards (127.6).
Jones was hired by the Redblacks on December 2, 2022. Jones and head coach Bob Dyce previously worked together with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for two seasons when Dyce was the offensive coordinator and Jones was the quarterbacks coach. The two helped the Roughriders win the Grey Cup in 2013.
Before Ottawa, Jones was a football operations consultant with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2022. In 2018, Jones was the offensive coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes before being promoted to head coach in 2019. During his stint with Montreal, Jones went 18-18, including two playoff appearances. Jones began his coaching career in 2009 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a quarterback coach.
The 52-year-old from Hammond, Indiana, played quarterback for 11 seasons in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, B.C. Lions, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He completed 1,513 of 2,648 passes (57.1%) for 21,383 yards, 145 touchdowns, 104 interceptions, 301 carries for 1,664 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 130 games, of which 56 were starts.
Jones was a CFL All-Star (2001), CFL East All-Star (2001), CFL West All-Star (2002), and CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2001.
