Delaware loses a close game against Elon

The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens (7-2) hosted the Elon Phoenix (5-4) on Saturday afternoon from Delaware Stadium. The Blue Hens had a chance to win the game but a late fumble by quarterback Ryan O’Connor ended the game and Elon beat Delaware 33-27.

Delaware had 386 yards on offense. Quarterback Ryan O’Connor completed 23 of 48 passes (48%) for 315 yards, one touchdown, one interception, eight carries for -15 yards, and one touchdown. Running back Marcus Yarns had nine carries for 45 yards, one touchdown, and three catches for 46 yards.

 Delaware wide receiver Joshua Youngblood made seven catches for 121 yards, and one touchdown. Delaware’s defense made 79 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, and four quarterback hits.

Elon had 414 yards on offense. Quarterback Matthew Downing completed 17 of 35 passes (49%) for 352 yards, three touchdowns, and eight carries for eight yards. Running back Jalen Hampton had 26 carries for 46 yards and one catch for 12 yards.

Elon wide receiver Chandler Brayboy made three catches for 121 yards, and one touchdown. Elon’s defense made 56 tackles, five tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
