The Reading Royals signed defenseman Kenny Johnson to a standard player contract (SPC) on Saturday.

Kenny Johnson is six foot four and weighs 229 pounds. The 25-year-old from Ann Arbor, Michigan, played seven games in the ECHL for the Wheeling Nailers and Orlando Solar Bears with one point (1 goal) and seven penalty minutes.

Before the ECHL, Johnson played three seasons in the BCHL for the Penticton Vees and Victoria Grizzlies with 40 points (11 goals, 29 assists) and 211 penalty minutes in 152 games. In addition, he earned 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) and 20 penalty minutes in 25 playoff games.

Then, Johnson played four seasons at Penn State (2019-22) with five points (1 goal, 4 assists), 14 penalties for 50 minutes, and 37 shots in 40 games for the Nittany Lions. He helped the Nittany Lions win the Big Ten conference before the pandemic shut them down.
