The Calgary Stampeders signed quarterback Kyle Vantrease, defensive lineman Will Choloh, and defensive backs Mazzi Wilkins, Clifford Chattman, and Tyler Richardson on Thursday.
Kyle Vantrease is six foot two and weighs 225 pounds. The 25-year-old from Akron, Ohio, signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He later spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Collegiately, Vantrease played five seasons at Buffalo (2017-21) completing 387 of 654 passes (59%) for 4,755 yards, 25 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 76 carries for 195 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 36 games for the Bulls.
Then, Vantrease transferred to Georgia Southern in 2022 completing 371 of 604 passes (61%) for 4,253 passes, 27 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, 33 carries for 34 yards, three touchdowns, and one catch for three yards in 13 games for the Eagles. He was named Third Team All-Sun Belt in 2022.
Will Choloh is six foot and weighs 282 pounds. The 23-year-old from Monrovia, Liberia, was on Calgary’s practice squad in 2023.
Collegiately, Choloh played five seasons at Troy (2018-22) with 220 tackles (84 solo, 116 assists), 34 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three blocked kicks in 62 games for the Trojans. He was a three-time Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference.
Mazzi Wilkins is six foot and weighs 191 pounds. The 28-year-old from Tampa, Florida, played five games for the Stars in 2023 with 13 tackles (11 solo, 2 assists), two tackles for loss, one sack, one pass breakup, and one interception for five yards. This is Wilkins’s second season with the Stars. Philadelphia drafted him in the tenth round (74th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft.
In his first season with Philadelphia, Wilkins made 27 tackles (16 solo, 11 assists), two tackles for loss, and four pass breakups in ten games. Before Philadelphia, Wilkins was on the practice squads of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Washington Football Team, and Baltimore Ravens. Wilkins played for the Alphas in the TSL in 2021. In the NFL, Wilkins played five games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 with three tackles.
Collegiately, Wilkins played four seasons at South Florida (2015-18) with 110 tackles (78 solo, 32 assists), two tackles for loss, a half sack, three interceptions for 21 yards, 22 pass blocks, and one fumble recovery in 47 games for the Bulls.
Clifford Chattman is six foot five and weighs 198 pounds. The 26-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, was on Calgary’s practice squad in 2023. Before Calgary, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He played three preseason games with seven tackles (6 solo, 1 assist) and one sack for the Falcons.
Collegiately, Chattman played three seasons at Texas A&M (2016-17, 2019) with 35 tackles (19 solo, 16 assists), one interception, six pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 26 games for the Aggies. Then, Chattman transferred to the University of Texas-San Antonio (2021-22) with 90 tackles (59 solo, 31 assists), two tackles for loss, half a sack, five interceptions for 78 yards, 15 pass breakups, and one pass breakup in 18 games for the Roadrunners.
Tyler Richardson is five foot ten and weighs 188 pounds. The 24-year-old from Cincinnati, Ohio, attended a rookie minicamp for the Indianapolis Colts in 2023.
Collegiately, Richardson played four seasons at Tiffin University (2019-22) with 112 tackles (68 solo, 44 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, one fumble recovery, three interceptions for 39 yards, and 18 pass breakups in 37 games for the Dragons.
