Reading Royals score one goal in a loss to Adirondack

Reading's Yvan Mongo scores the Royals only goal of the night against Adirondack on Wednesday.

The Reading Royals (3-8-1-1) started a three-game road trip at the Cool Insuring Arena on Wednesday night against the Adirondack Thunder (7-3-1).

At 13:53 of the first period, Adirondack’s Patrick Grasso put the Thunder up 1-0. Late in the first period, Reading’s Yvan Mongo tied the game 1-1 with an assist by Joseph Nardi. The Royals had eight shots on goal in the first period but the game remained tied 1-1 after one period of play.

For the rest of the game, it was all Adirondack. At 8:13 of the second period, Ryan Orgel put the Thunder up 2-1 with an assist by Mike Gillespie. With 15 seconds left, former Royal Colin Felix extended Adirondack’s lead to 3-1 with an assist by Shane Harper. The Royals had 11 shots on goal but trailed 3-1 with one period left to play.

At 6:44 of the third period, Yushiroh Hirano scored a power play goal which made it 4-1 Thunder with an assist by Shane Harper. With under five minutes left, Erik Middendorf made it 5-1 Thunder with an assist from Grant Jozefek. The Royals lost to the Thunder by the final score of 5-1.

The Royals had 28 shots on goal, committed five penalties for 12 minutes, went 0 for 3 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 23 saves off 28 shots.
