The Toronto Argonauts extended the contracts of receivers coach and passing game coordinator Pete Costanza, quarterbacks coach Mike Miller, offensive line coach Kris Sweet, and running backs coach and run game coordinator Edwin Harrison on Thursday.
Pete Costanza will enter his third season as the Argo’s receivers coach and passing game coordinator. He helped the Argo’s receivers have career years including DaVaris Daniels, Kurleigh Gittens Jr., Damonte Coxie, Dejon Brissett, David Ungerer III, Cam Phillips, and Tommy Nield.
Before Toronto, Costanza was a running backs coach for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for two seasons and was a long-time receivers coach for the Calgary Stampeders (2008-19). The New Jersey native began his coaching career with the New Jersey Red Dogs (AFL) under head coach John Hufnagel.
Mike Miller will enter his third season as the Argo’s quarterback coach. He helped quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson lead the league in passing in the 2022 season on route to a Grey Cup victory and quarterback Chad Kelly win the league’s Most Outstanding Player in 2023.
The 53-year-old from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, began his coaching career in 1997 at Robert Morris. He would spend time in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals, where he helped them reach Super Bowl XLIII.
In the CFL, he was an assistant head coach/offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Montreal Alouettes in 2013. Before joining Toronto, Miller was the wide receivers coach for the New York Guardians (XFL) in 2020.
Kris Sweet will enter his third season as the Argo’s offensive line coach. The 50-year-old from Salem, Virginia, began his coaching career in 1997 at Tennessee Tech as their offensive assistant coach. He spent ten seasons in college before making the jump to the CFL as the Calgary Stampeders offensive line coach where he won a Grey Cup in 2008.
He spent five seasons in Calgary before becoming the Run game coordinator and offensive line coach for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Sweet also spent time with the Edmonton Elks as an offensive line coach in 2013. Before Toronto, Sweet was an offensive line coach at Howard University in 2021. Sweet has had two players win CFL Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman under his watch, Dejon Allen this season and Ben Archibald in 2010 (Calgary).
Edwin Harrison will enter his third season as the Argo’s running backs Coach and run game coordinator. He helped running back A.J. Ouellette reach the 1,000-yard season in 2023. Before Toronto, Harrison was coaching at Westbury High School in Houston, Texas. He helped the Argo’s win the 2022 Grey Cup.
The 39-year-old from Houston, Texas, was on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad for two seasons before playing for the Calgary Stampeders (2010-15). He is a member of the 2014 Calgary Stampeders Grey Cup championship team.
