Rutgers unable to end losing streak against Maryland

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-6, 3-6) concluded the 2023 season on Saturday afternoon from SHI Stadium against the Maryland Terrapins (7-5, 4-5) in their 12th all-time meeting dating back to 2007. The Scarlet Knights had lost three straight games against the Terrapins and the losing streak continued with a 42-24 loss. Rutgers ends the season on a four-game losing streak.

Rutgers had 355 yards on offense. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt completed 13 of 34 passes (38.2%) for 165 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception, 16 carries for 48 yards, and 2 touchdowns.

Running back Kyle Monangai had 20 carries for 118 yards, and running back Aaron Young caught one pass for 10 yards, and 1 touchdown. Rutgers’s defense made 60 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 1 pass breakup.

Maryland had 498 yards on offense. Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa completed 24 of 31 passes (77%) for 361 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception, 2 carries for -3 yards, and 1 touchdown.

Running back Billy Edwards Jr. had 5 carries for 8 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wide receiver Tai Felton, tight end Corey Dyches, and running back Roman Hemby combined with 12 catches logging 218 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Maryland’s defense made 72 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 interception, and 7 pass breakups.

Rutgers are bowl eligible. They will see what Bowl game they are playing in on December 3rd, at noon on ESPN.
