Reading Royals conclude road trip with a loss at Maine

The Reading Royals (4-9-1-1) concluded the three-game road trip on Saturday night from the Cross Insurance Arena against the Maine Mariners (5-8).

Twenty-eight seconds into the first period, Maine’s Brooklyn Kalmikov put the Mariners up 1-0 with assists from Gabe Guertler and Jimmy Lambert. The Royals had 11 shots on goal but trailed 1-0 after one period of play.

At 13:19 in the second period, Maine’s Ethan Keppen extended the Mariners lead on the power play to 2-0 with assists from Adam Mechura and Alex Kile. The Royals had 12 shots on goal but trailed 2-0 after two periods.

At 16:59 of the third period, Maine’s Gabriel Chicoine scored an empty net goal for a 3-0 lead with an assist by Brad Arvanitis. With 40 seconds left in the game, Reading’s Mason Millman scored a power play goal which made it 3-1 with assists from Darren Brady and Yvan Mongo.

The Royals had 35 shots on goal, committed five penalties for 15 minutes, went 1 for 3 on the power play, and Will Cranley made 34 saves off 36 shots.
