The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and General Manager Kyle Walters agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old from St. Thomas, Ontario, has served as Winnipeg’s General Manager since November 26, 2013, after previously serving as an assistant coach and assistant GM. The 2024 season will be Walters’s 14th season in Winnipeg.
Under his leadership, the Blue Bombers have a record of 98-72 in the regular season including winning the Western Division four times, reaching the postseason for seven consecutive seasons and four Grey Cup appearances, of which winning two of them in 2019 and 2021. The Blue Bombers have lost the last two Grey Cups to Toronto in 2022 and Montreal in 2023.
In addition to the two Grey Cup championships as a GM, Walters also won a Grey Cup as a player for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1999.
In addition to Walters, the Blue Bombers also announced that Assistant General Manager/Director of U.S. Scouting Danny McManus and Senior Assistant General Manager/Director of Player Personnel Ted Goveia agreed to new contract extensions. Neither McManus nor Goveia’s length of contract was not disclosed.
