Arizona Cardinals release tight end Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz played three seasons for the Arizona Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals released tight end Zach Ertz on Thursday after Ertz requested his release according to future Hall of Famer JJ Watt.

Zach Ertz is six foot five and weighs 250 pounds. The 33-year-old from Orange, California, played seven games this season for the Arizona Cardinals with 27 catches for 187 yards, and one touchdown. Ertz has been out with a quad injury.

The Cardinals acquired Ertz in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on October 15, 2021, for cornerback Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round draft pick. Ertz played three seasons for the Cardinals with 130 catches for 1,167 yards, 8 touchdowns, and one carry for four yards in 28 games.

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Ertz in the second round (35th pick) of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played nine seasons in Philadelphia with 579 catches for 6,267 yards and 38 touchdowns in 123 games. During his time in Philadelphia, he helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LII and was a three-time Pro Bowler.

Collegiately, Ertz played three seasons at Stanford (2010-12) with 112 catches for 1,434 yards and 15 touchdowns in 37 games for the Cardinal. He was named First Team All-Pac 12, Unanimous All-American, and won the Ozzie Newsome Award in 2012.
