The Edmonton Elks re-signed fullback Tanner Green and linebacker Josiah Schakel to two-year contract extensions through the 2025 season on Friday.

Tanner Green is six foot three and weighs 235 pounds. The 30-year-old from Lacombe, Alberta, made 14 tackles on special teams for the Elks in 2023. The Elks drafted Green in the fourth round (32nd pick) of the 2018 CFL Draft.

Green will enter his sixth season in Edmonton. In five seasons, Green has 13 catches for 93 yards, two touchdowns, 60 tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 59 games.

Collegiately, Green played two seasons at Concordia University (2016-17) with six carries for 11 yards and 1 touchdown in 12 games for the Stingers.

Josiah Schakel is six foot one and weighs 223 pounds, The 24-year-old from St. Catherines, Ontario, made 15 tackles on special teams in 15 games for the Elks in 2023. The Elks signed Schakel as a free agent on June 26, 2023, 23 days after he was released by the Stampeders.

The Stampeders drafted Schakel in the second round (14th round) in the 2022 CFL Draft. He played seven games for Calgary with one tackle.

Collegiately, Schakel played four seasons at the University of Alberta (2018-21) with 142 tackles (118 solo, 50 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one interception for 71 yards, one touchdown, and five pass breakups in 22 games for the Golden Bears. He was named U Sports Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.
