Tag Bertuzzi continues hot start leading Reading to victory

Reading's Tag Bertuzzi scored two goals against Kalamazoo on Saturday night.

The Reading Royals (5-10-1-1) concluded a two-game homestand on Saturday night in a rematch against the Kalamazoo Wings (7-10) from the Santander Arena.

At 18:04 of the first period, Reading’s Matt Brown put the Royals up 1-0 with assists from Joseph Nardi and Darren Brady. The Royals had eight shots on goal and led 1-0 after one period of play.

At 5:12 of the second period, Kalamazoo’s Justin Taylor tied the game 1-1 with assists by Tanner Sorenson and Brandon Saigeon. Twenty-three seconds later, Kalamazoo’s Collin Adams put the Wings up 2-1 with an assist by Josh Passolt.

At 10:11, Reading’s Tag Bertuzzi tied the game 2-2 with assists by Matt Brown and Mike Chen. A minute and forty-four seconds later, Reading’s Devon Paliani scored a power play goal which made it 3-2 Royals with assists from Joseph Nardi and Ryan Chyzowski. The Royals had 19 shots on goal and led 3-2 after two periods of play.

A minute and thirty-four seconds into the third period, Reading’s Joseph Nardi extended the Royals lead to 4-2 with an assist by Matt Brown. With a minute and fifty-nine seconds left in the game, Kalamazoo’s Ty Glover cut the Royals lead down to 4-3 with assists by Brad Morrison and David Keefer.

Forty-four seconds later, Reading’s Tag Bertuzzi ended the game with an empty-net goal. The Royals had four shots on goal and defeated the Wings by the final score of 5-3.

The Royals had 31 shots on goal, committed six penalties for 39 minutes, went 1 for 6 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 38 saves off 41 shots.
