The Philadelphia Eagles signed linebacker Shaquille Leonard to a one-year contract on Monday.
Shaquille Leonard is six foot two and weighs 230 pounds. The 28-year-old from Lake View, South Carolina, made 65 tackles (34 solo, 31 assists) in 9 games for the Colts in 2023 before he was released on November 21, 2023.
After the 2021 season, Leonard had back surgery to correct nerves being impinged by his disks. In 2022, Leonard played three games for the Colts with 11 tackles (8 solo, 3 assists), 1 interception for 15 yards, and 1 pass breakup.
The Colts drafted Leonard in the second round (36th pick) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Leonard made 614 tackles (385 solo, 229 assists), 32 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, 20 quarterback hits, 12 interceptions for 157 yards, 1 touchdown, 31 pass breakups, 17 forced fumbles, and 7 fumble recoveries in 70 games.
Leonard is a three-time First Team All-Pro (2018, 2020, 2021), NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (2018), PFWA All-Rookie Team (2018), three-time Pro Bowler (2019-21), Second Team All-Pro (2019), NFL forced fumbles leader (2021), and NFL tackles leader (2018).
Collegiately, Leonard played four seasons at South Carolina State (2014-17) with 393 tackles (273 solo, 120 assists), 20 sacks, 6 interceptions for 183 yards, and 3 touchdowns in 42 games for the Bulldogs. He was a two-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Year (2016-17) and a three-time First Team All-MEAC (2015-17).
