The Hamilton Tiger-Cats named Scott Milanovich the 27th Head Coach in franchise history on Wednesday. The 50-year-old from Butler, Pennsylvania, was a senior assistant coach for the Ticats in 2023. He took over play-calling duties in August after the Ticats parted ways with assistant head coach & offensive coordinator Tommy Condell.

“I want to thank Bob Young, Scott Mitchell, Orlondo Steinauer, Ed Hervey and Hamilton Sports Group for this opportunity,” said Milanovich. “There is an outstanding foundation in place and I’m excited to get to work and help bring a championship to Hamilton.”

Before Hamilton, Milanovich spent two seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the Indianapolis Colts (2021-22). Before the Colts, Milanovich was the head coach of the Edmonton Elks in 2020 but the season was canceled. He arrived in the CFL in 2003 as the quarterbacks coach for the Calgary Stampeders after holding the same position for the Rhein Fire (NFLE) that same season.

“First and foremost, Scott is an outstanding person and a proven Head Coach in the CFL,” said Orlondo Steinauer, President of Football Operations, Hamilton Tiger-Cats. “He did an outstanding job with us last year when he took on an expanded role and we know his leadership will bring tremendous value to our organization. We’re looking forward to the 2024 season and we’re excited that Scott and his family will continue to be a part of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.”

Milanovich spent four seasons in NFL Europe as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Rhein Fire and Cologne Centurions. In 2007, he was the quarterbacks coach for the Montreal Alouettes and worked his way up to be an assistant head coach along with retaining offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2009-11.

He would then be named the Toronto Argonauts head coach in 2012 and coached the team for four years, winning the Grey Cup in his debut in 2012 and was named CFL Coach of the Year. After the 2016 season, he resigned due to the uncertain future of the Argonauts.

Milanovich would then become the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks coach in 2017 and spent three seasons there. As a coach in the CFL, Milanovich is a three-time Grey Cup champion and won the XFL Championship as a player in 2001 with the Los Angeles Xtreme.
