Reading Royals get struck down in Adirondack

The Reading Royals (5-11-1-1) visited the Cool Insuring Arena on Wednesday night against the Adirondack Thunder (10-5-2).

A minute and thirty-one seconds in the first period, Reading’s Joseph Nardi put the Royals up 1-0 with assists from Will Zmolek and Matt Brown. The Royals had 11 shots on goal and led 1-0 after one period of play.

At 17:34 of the second period, Adirondack’s Ryan Smith tied the game 1-1 with assists from Erik Middendorf and Mike Gillespie. The Royals had 11 shots on goal but the game remained tied 1-1 after two periods of play.

At 19:12 of the third period, Adirondack’s Matt Stief put the Thunder up 2-1 with an assist by Grant Jozefek. The Royals had 14 shots on goal but lost to the Thunder by the final score of 2-1.

The Royals had 36 shots on goal, committed two penalties for nine minutes, went 0 for 4 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 13 saves off 15 shots.
