The Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signed special teams coordinator Kent Maugeri and hired Marc Mueller as offensive coordinator on Wednesday signing two-year contracts through the 2025 season.

Kent Maugeri will enter his ninth season in Saskatchewan, third as the special teams coordinator that he has held since 2022. In 2023, the Roughriders finished first in average yards per punt (47.9) and recovered onside kicks (3), second in punt return touchdowns (3), and opponents’ kickoff return average (19.2).

In addition, Mario Alford finished second in punt return yards (978), kickoff return yards (1,181), kick returns for touchdowns (3), third in kickoff return average yards (23.2), and combined yards (2,266).

A.J. Allen (5) had 19 tackles on special teams and Kosi Onyeka (T-7) had 17 special teams tackles in 2023. Under Maugeri, both Mario Alford and punter Adam Korsak earned CFL West All-Stars in 2023.

Marc Mueller is a 34-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan. He is the grandson of legendary CFL quarterback Ron Lancaster. He began his coaching career in 2013 as the quarterbacks coach for the Regina Rams. In 2014, Muller became the Calgary Stampeders defensive assistant.

Next, he became the Stampeders’ running backs coach from 2015-19 before becoming the quarterbacks coach from 2020-23. He helped the Stampeders win two Grey Cup championships.

“It’ll be really neat to explain to my children, as they get older, how important my grandfather was to the province and how important our good friend George was as well, and how important they still are,” said Mueller. “It’s really cool for myself and my family to come back to a place that has meant so much to our family and a place where some of our family is remembered.”

As a player, Mueller signed with the Edmonton Eskimos as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He played in one preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders completing three passes for 45 yards. He was released on June 20, 2011, and returned to Regina.

Mueller finished his collegiate career as the Rams’ all-time leader in pass completion rate (62.1%), second on the team’s all-time list in career pass completions (511) and passing yards (6,522), and third in touchdown passes (34).
