B.C. Lions sign six players including WR Jadakis Bonds

The B.C. Lions signed wide receivers Jadakis Bonds and Charles Headen, defensive lineman Janathian Turner, linebackers John Petrishen, and Jake Carlock, and defensive back Lawrence Woods on Wednesday.

Jadakis Bonds is six foot three and weighs 206 pounds. The 24-year-old from Williamston, North Carolina, made two catches for 60 yards in three preseason games for the Green Bay Packers in 2023. The Packers signed Bonds as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Collegiately, Bonds played five seasons at Hampton University (2018-22) with 180 catches for 2,731 yards, 33 touchdowns, four carries for 53 yards, and one touchdown in 40 games for the Pirates. His numbers rank him third in school history. Bonds was a First Team All-CAA and a First Team All-Big South Conference.

Charles Headen is five foot nine and weighs 198 pounds. The 25-year-old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, returned 52 kickoffs for 1,143 yards, six touchdowns, two punt returns for 83 yards, and one touchdown in 15 games for the Frisco Fighters (IFL) in 2023. He was named Special Teams Player of the Year in 2023. Before Frisco, Headen signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2022.

Collegiately, Headen played three seasons at Shippensburg University (2017-19) with 80 catches for 909 yards, 14 touchdowns, three carries for seven yards, and 15 kick returns for 273 yards in 34 games for the Raiders. Then, Headen transferred to SMU in 2021 and appeared in two games recording no stats.

Janathian Turner is six foot three and weighs 304 pounds. The 24-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, played five seasons at Gardner-Webb University (2018-22) with 195 tackles (74 solo, 121 assists), 22.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and one pass breakup in 51 games for the Bulldogs.

Turner helped the Bulldogs win the Big South Conference championship and was named All-Big South by Phil Steele.

John Petrishen is six foot one and weighs 225 pounds. The 27-year-old from Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, was on the B.C. Lions practice squad in 2023. Before B.C., Petrishen attended rookie minicamps for the Buffalo Bills and Washington Commanders in 2023.

Collegiately, Petrishen played two seasons at Penn State (2017-18) with eight tackles (5 solo, 3 assists), and one tackle for loss in 17 games for the Nittany Lions.

Then, he transferred to the University of Pittsburgh (2019-21) with 88 tackles (35 solo, 53 assists), 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three interceptions for 35 yards, one touchdown, four pass breakups, and one blocked kick in 32 games for the Panthers. He was an All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2021.

Jake Carlock is six foot two and weighs 238 pounds. The 27-year-old from Babylon, New York, signed with the Lions in 2021 before he was placed on the retirement list.

Before B.C., Carlock signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He played four preseason games with two tackles (2 solo) and one sack. Carlock also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons.

Collegiately, Carlock played three seasons at Stony Brook (2014-16) with 23 tackles (14 solo, 9 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two pass breakups and one forced fumble in 19 games for the Seawolves.

Next, Carlock transferred to Long Island University-Post (2017-18) with 131 tackles (81 solo, 50 assists), 17 tackles for loss, four sacks, six interceptions for 21 yards, 19 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one blocked punt in 21 games for the Pioneers. Carlock was named NE10 Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-NE10 in 2018.

Lawrence Woods is five foot nine and weighs 180 pounds. The 25-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri, had 14 kickoff returns for 277 yards, 20 tackles, and two tackles on special teams in seven games for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2023.

The Ticats signed Woods as a free agent on April 21, 2022. In 2022, Woods had 43 kickoff returns for 990 yards, one touchdown, three tackles, and nine tackles on special teams in 14 games. Before Hamilton, the New Orleans Saints signed Woods as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

Collegiately, Woods played four seasons at Truman State University (2016-19) with 79 tackles (49 solo, 30 assists), three tackles for loss, two sacks, five interceptions for 67 yards, one touchdown, 27 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one blocked punt, 18 kick returns for 869 yards, five touchdowns, six punt returns for 52 yards, one catch for nine yards, and two carries for 33 yards in 25 games for the Bulldogs. He was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2018.
