The Montreal Alouettes re-signed linebacker Darnell Sankey to a two-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Friday.

Darnell Sankey is six foot one and weighs 246 pounds. The 29-year-old from San Jose, California, made 31 tackles, one sack, one interception, and two forced fumbles in six games for the Alouettes in 2023 helping them win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Before Montreal, Sankey helped the Arlington Renegades (XFL) win the 2023 XFL Championship with 47 tackles (20 solo, 27 assists), three tackles for loss, and one sack in eight games. He requested and was granted his release on August 1, 2023.

Before Arlington, Sankey signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He would spend time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions, and New Orleans Saints.

Then, Sankey made his way to the CFL signing with the Calgary Stampeders in 2020 but the season was canceled. He would return to the Stampeders in 2021 with 97 tackles (97 solo) and one sack in 14 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star after the season.

In 2022, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Sankey set a new franchise record with 121 tackles (121 solo), three sacks, and one interception in 18 games.

Collegiately, Sankey played four seasons at Sacramento State (2012-15) with 330 tackles (124 solo, 206 assists), 27.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, one interception for 59 yards, one touchdown, ten pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 43 games for the Hornets. He was named first Team FCS All-American in 2015.
