The Ottawa Redblacks signed defensive back David Haney on Monday.
David Haney is five foot nine and weighs 185 pounds. The 25-year-old from 29 Palms, California, made 35 tackles (25 solo, 10 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions for 21 yards, 16 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one kick return for 12 yards in eight games for the San Diego Strike Force (IFL) in 2023. After the season, Haney initially signed with the Tucson Sugar Skulls (IFL) with signing with Ottawa.
In 2022, Haney played for the Iowa Barnstormers (IFL) with 44 tackles (36 solo, 8 assists), one tackle for loss, two interceptions for one yard, ten pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and 13 kick returns for 167 yards in nine games. Haney was amongst the league leaders in solo and total tackles, pass breakups, and interceptions.
Collegiately, Haney played one season at San Bernardino Valley College in 2017 with 38 tackles (30 solo, 8 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions for 48 yards, ten pass breakups, three kick returns for 40 yards, and four punt returns for seven yards. in nine games for the Wolverines.
Then, Haney transferred to MidAmerica Nazarene (2018-19) with 54 tackles (47 solo, 7 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions for 41 yards, 14 pass breakups, one blocked punt, and 22 kick returns for 434 yards in 18 games for the Pioneers.
