The Philadelphia Eagles flaws have finally caught up to them

The Philadelphia Eagles playing the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Eagles got embarrassed for the second week in a row against the Dallas Cowboys in a 33-13 loss. In two games, the Eagles have given up 75 points while scoring 32 points.

In the Cowboys game, the Eagles only had one red zone opportunity. They were getting outplayed and outcoached for the second week in a row. In the first half, the Eagles, as usual, marched down the field but came away with two Jake Elliott field goals. This team is 29 of 47 in the red zone this season.

The only touchdown scored by the Eagles came from the defense when Fletcher Cox stripped Dak Prescott and Jalen Carter scooped it up for a 42-yard touchdown. The defense gave up 394 yards and continued to miss tackles, can’t cover their guys, take dumb penalties, and overall are just an average defense outside of their front four.

The opponents have figured out who the Eagles are but the Eagles, starting with head coach Nick Sirianni have failed to adjust and change up the offense to keep the opponents guessing. Nick Sirianni is an inexperienced coach and it shows. He has not done a great job making adjustments as you see with experienced coaches like Andy Reid or Doug Pederson.

This past offseason, the Eagles lost offensive coordinator Shane Steichen (Colts) and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals) to head coaching jobs. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had an opportunity to add veteran coaches for Sirianni but he is cheap when it comes to the coaching staff and it shows.

The Eagles had an opportunity to hire Vic Fangio as a defensive coordinator. In 2022, Fangio was a consultant and went to Miami to be their defensive coordinator. Guess what, Miami’s defense is better than Philadelphia’s. Miami’s defense is ranked seventh in yards allowed per game (300.2), ninth in passing yards per game (203.6), eighth in rushing yards allowed (96.6) which is two behind the Eagles, and 20th in points allowed per game (22.1).

Outside of allowed rushing yards, Fangio would’ve been the better defensive coordinator than Sean Desai. Desai is getting a second chance as a defensive coordinator. Before, he was the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator but was let go after Chicago fired Matt Nagy. Desai is young and would’ve been better in another role.

On offense, Philadelphia promoted Brian Johnson from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator. Yes, he did help Jalen Hurts but not this year. Jalen Hurts looks confused, hurt, and simply is a deer caught in the headlights. He is doing too much and is holding the ball too long.

Johnson’s job is to make the offense better. They are currently ranked eighth in yards per game (358.8), 13th in passing yards per game (234.3), eighth in rushing yards per game (124.5), and sixth in points per game (26.3).

While many will look at those numbers as an okay sign, on the field, the offense struggles. They run the same plays over and over again and the defenses know every play that is coming. Brian Johnson is another coach, like Desai, who was not ready for this role.

Like Fangio, the Eagles should’ve added a veteran offensive coordinator. Before, Frank Reich was hired by the Carolina Panthers and has since been fired. He was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator when they won the Super Bowl.

In my last opinion article, I said the Eagles needed to bring back Frank Reich. After Sunday night, the Eagles should be on the phone paying Reich whatever he wants to have him back in Philadelphia running this offense because the current staff has failed to make changes and Reich can make those changes.

Lastly, the players. After the Eagles got crushed by the 49ers, former NFL linebacker, Eagle, and Super Bowl champion Seth Joyner went on a rant about the defense without mentioning any of their names. Philadelphia defense back Darius Slay fired back at Joyner and the fans cooked him.

Rather than take accountability, Slay and some others go to social media and cry about it rather than taking constructive criticism and working on improving their game. They talk too much and not enough action on the field plus they get paid a lot of money. In the last two weeks, nobody from the Eagles earned their paycheck and instead, it should go to charity. We have a lot of boys playing a man’s game and it shows not just in the Eagles but the NFL overall.

Philadelphia’s final four games of the season are the Seattle Seahawks next Monday, two meetings against the New York Giants, and the Arizona Cardinals. Right now, I’m not confident that the Eagles can beat any of those teams. Throw the 10-3 record out the window, this team is a five-or six-win team. Their flaws have finally caught up to them and everyone now knows how bad the Eagles are as a team. Do you give them any chance at winning?
