The Montreal Alouettes re-signed offensive linemen Jesse Gibbon and Josh Donovan, and linebacker Chris Moore to two-year contract extensions through the 2024 season, and re-signed kicker Jose Maltos to a one-year extension on Friday.
Jesse Gibbon is six foot three and weighs 300 pounds. The 26-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario, played 17 games for the Alouettes in 2023 helping them win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24.
Montreal’s offense finished seventh in offensive points per game (20.6), fourth in touchdowns (43), sixth in average net offensive yards (329.7), fifth in average rushing yards (102.2), sixth in average passing yards (250.0), and eighth in sacks allowed (61).
Before Montreal, Gibbons played seven games for the Edmonton Elks in 2022. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats drafted Gibbon in the first round (2nd pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft. He played 42 games in three seasons in Hamilton including two trips to the Grey Cup.
On September 2nd, 2022, Hamilton traded Gibbon to the Edmonton Elks. In addition, he attended a rookie minicamp with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Collegiately, Gibbon played four seasons at Waterloo (2015-18) playing left tackle in 32 games for the Warriors.
Josh Donovan is six foot six and weighs 330 pounds. The 24-year-old from College Station, Texas, was on Montreal’s practice squad in 2023. Before Montreal, Donovan attended the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp.
Collegiately, Donovan played two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College (2017-18) playing 19 games for the Cardinals. He was named First Team All-SWJCFC in 2018 after helping the Cardinals’ running backs average 5.1 yards per carry and 193.0 yards per rushing.
Then, Donovan transferred to Arizona (2019-22) playing right guard in 28 games for the Wildcats. In 2022, Arizona’s offense was ranked sixth in passing offense and 21st ranked total offense averaging 30.8 points per game.
Chris Moore is six foot and weighs 210 pounds. The 25-year-old from Ashburn, Virginia, made one tackle and three tackles on special teams in three games for the Alouettes in 2023. The Alouettes signed Moore as a free agent on May 28, 2023.
Before Montreal, Moore signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and later signed with the Toronto Argonauts.
Collegiately, Moore played four seasons at Virginia (2016-19) with 97 tackles (44 solo, 53 assists), four tackles for loss, half a sack, and one interception for eight yards in 32 games for the Cavaliers. Then, Moore transferred to Georgia State (2020-21) with 104 tackles (63 solo, 41 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception for 30 yards, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one carry for 32 yards in 22 games for the Panthers.
Jose Maltos is five foot ten and weighs 221 pounds. The 32-year-old from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, converted 7 of 9 field goals (77.8%), made 5 of 7 extra points, two singles, and ten kickoffs for 610 yards in two games for the Alouettes in 2023.
Before Montreal, the Ottawa Redblacks drafted Maltos in the first round (2nd pick) of the 2019 CFL-LFA Draft. He appeared in 11 games in three seasons for the Redblacks. In 2013, he signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent.
