Shane Sellar’s hat trick leads to a Royals win

Shane Sellar scores a hat trick on Friday night against Worcester.

The Reading Royals (7-12-1-1) concluded a three-game homestand on Friday night against the Worcester Railers (8-10-2-2) from the Santander Arena.

At 17:14 of the first period, Worchester’s Anthony Repaci put the Railers up 1-0 with an assist by Reece Newkirk. The Royals had 13 shots on goal but trailed 1-0 after one period of play.

At 5:21 of the second period, Reading’s Shane Sellar scored for the Royals tying the game 1-1 with assists from Tag Bertuzzi and Matt Brown. Forty-four seconds later, Reading’s Shane Sellar scored another goal which put the Royals up 2-1 with an assist by Brendan Hoffmann.

Then, at 13:06, Reading’s Shane Sellar completed the hat trick extending the Royals lead to 3-1 with assists from Will Zmolek and Austin Master. The Royals had nine shots on goal and led 3-1 after two periods of play.

A minute and twenty-one seconds into the third period, Reading’s Tag Bertuzzi made it 4-1 Royals with an assist by Joseph Nardi. At 3:55, Worcester’s Blade Jenkins scored for the Railers to cut the Royals lead down 4-2 with an assist by Ryan Verrier. At 14:19, Reading’s Brayden Guy put the game away with a goal and the Royals defeated the Railers by the final score of 5-2.

The Royals had 31 shots on goal, committed three penalties for six minutes, went 0 for 4 on the power play, and Parker Gahagen made 26 saves off 28 shots.
