The Montreal Alouettes re-signed linebackers Alexandre Gagné, Frédéric Chagnon, and Tyrell Richards to one-year contract extensions through the 2024 season on Tuesday.
Alexandre Gagné is six foot one and weighs 230 pounds. The 31-year-old from St. Hubert, Quebec, made one tackle, and 16 tackles on special teams in 18 games for the Alouettes in 2023 helping Montreal win the 110th Grey Cup.
The Alouettes signed Gagné as a free agent on February 12, 2020, but the season was canceled. In three seasons with Montreal, Gagné has one tackle, and 49 tackles on special teams in 50 games.
Before Montreal, the Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Gagné as an undrafted free agent in 2016 but chose to return to the University of Sherbrooke. Gagné played three seasons in Saskatchewan with 43 tackles on special teams in 37 games.
Collegiately, Gagné played five seasons at the University of Sherbrooke (2012-16) with 167 tackles (90 solo, 77 assists), 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble, four forced fumbles, and five pass breakups in 27 games for the Vert et Or.
Frédéric Chagnon is six foot four and weighs 233 pounds. The 31-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, made 27 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and one sack in 18 games for the Alouettes in 2023. The Alouettes signed Chagnon as a free agent on February 12, 2022. In 2022, Chagnon made six tackles on special teams in 16 games.
Before Montreal, the B.C. Lions drafted Chagnon in the third round (24th pick) of the 2017 CFL Draft. Chagnon played three seasons in B.C. with 26 tackles on special teams in 51 games for the Lions. Then, Chagnon signed with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2021 with one tackle, and six tackles on special teams in 14 games.
Collegiately, Chagnon played four seasons at the University of Montreal (2013-16) with 75 tackles (37 solo, 38 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 26 games for the Carabins. He is a member of the 2014 Vanier Cup championship team.
Tyrell Richards is six foot four and weighs 240 pounds. The 25-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, made ten tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one interception, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 11 games for the Alouettes in 2023.
The Alouettes drafted Richards in the first round (1st pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. In 2022, Richards made five tackles and four tackles on special teams in seven games.
Collegiately, Richards played three seasons at Syracuse (2018-20) with 54 tackles (33 solo, 21 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one blocked punt in 31 games for the Orange.
