Reading Royals takes care of business in Norfolk

The Reading Royals (10-12-1-1) concluded a three-game series at the Norfolk Scope on Saturday night against the Norfolk Admirals (14-9-2-1).

At 14:06 of the first period, Norfolk’s Denis Smirnov scored a power play to put the Admirals up 1-0 with assists by Andrew McLean and Justin Robidas. The Royals had five shots on goal and trailed 1-0 after one period of play.

At 14:02, Reading’s Ryan Chyzowski tied the game 1-1 with an assist by Darren Brady. Thirty-three seconds later, Reading’s Brendan Hoffmann put the Royals up 2-1 with an assist from Kenny Johnson. At 18:09, Norfolk’s Darick Louis-Jean tied the game 2-2 with assists by Brandon Osmundson and Danny Katic. The Royals had 13 shots on goal but the game remained tied 2-2.

At 6:38 of the third period, Reading’s Jake Bricknell put the Royals up 3-2 with assists by Kenny Johnson and Brendan Hoffmann. The Royals had eight shots on goal and defeated the Admirals by the final score of 3-2.

The Royals had 26 shots on goal, committed three penalties, went 0 for 4 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 22 saves off 24 shots.
