The Houston Gamblers re-signed running back Mark Thompson for the 2024 season on Sunday.

Mark Thompson is six foot two and weighs 235 pounds. The 29-year-old from La Mott, Pennsylvania, had 135 carries for 653 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 15 catches for 90 yards in eight games for the Gamblers in 2023. Thompson was named Offensive Player of the Year and made the All-USFL Team.

The Gamblers drafted Thompson in the 28th round (227th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, Thompson had 114 carries for 463 yards, two touchdowns, seven catches for 40 yards, and two touchdowns in nine games.

Before Houston, Thompson signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He would also have stints with the New York Jets, Detroit Lions, and Oakland Raiders.

Collegiately, Thompson started at Nassau Community College in 2013 but did not play a game for the Lions. Next, he transferred to Dodge City Community College (2014-15) with 352 carries for 1,758 yards, 26 touchdowns, 19 catches for 177 yards, and 15 kick returns for 275 yards in 22 games for the Conquistadors.

Then, Thompson transferred to Florida (2016-17) with 126 carries for 596 yards, five touchdowns, 16 catches for 184 yards, one touchdown, and one kick return for 21 yards in 19 games for the Gators.
