B.C. Lions sign RB Ronald Awatt and WR Jalen Sample

The B.C. Lions signed running back Ronald Awatt and wide receiver Jalen Sample on Friday.

Ronald Awatt is five foot eleven and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from Lubbock, Texas, signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Collegiately, Awatt played six seasons at UTEP (2017-22) with 369 carries for 1,781 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 17 catches for 235 yards in 44 games for the Miners. In the 2021 New Mexico Bowl, Awatt had 14 carries for 40 yards and three catches for 46 yards against Fresno State.

Jalen Sample is six foot four and weighs 200 pounds. The 24-year-old from Onalaska, Wisconsin, appeared in one preseason game for the Washington Commanders against the Cleveland Browns in 2023 but did not record any stats. The Commanders signed Sample as an undrafted free agent in 2023.

Collegiately, Sample played five seasons at Minnesota State (2018-22) with 114 catches for 1,898 yards, 14 touchdowns, and one carry for seven yards in 42 games for the Mavericks. He was named to the All-NSIC Team of Excellence, and a Semifinalist for William V. Campbell Trophy.
