The Reading Royals traded forward Mason McCarty to the Rapid City Rush on Thursday for cash considerations.
Mason McCarty is five foot ten and weighs 185 pounds. The 26-year-old from Blackie, Alberta, had five points (1 goal, 4 assists), one game-winning goal, 13 shots, and eight penalty minutes in 14 games for the Royals in the 2023-24 season.
Before Reading, McCarty played for the Rapid City Rush and Kalamazoo Wings with 40 points (20 goals, 20 assists), 52 penalty minutes, four power-play goals, two shootout goals, and two game-winning goals in 72 games. He was also with the Iowa Heartlanders but never played a game for them.
McCarty played five seasons in the WHL for the Red Deer Rebels and Saskatoon Blades with 157 points (85 goals, 72 assists) and 223 penalty minutes in 225 games. In addition, he earned four points (1 goal, 3 assists) and eight penalty minutes in six playoff games.
Then, he played three seasons at Acadia University (2019-21) with 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) and 58 penalty minutes in 42 games for the Axemen. In addition, McCarty had three points (2 goals, 1 assist) and 16 penalty minutes in nine playoff games.
