Toronto Argonauts sign three players including WR Justin Marshall

The Toronto Argonauts signed wide receiver Justin Marshall, and defensive backs Leonard Johnson and Chris Steele on Friday.

Justin Marshall is six foot three and weighs 210 pounds. The 24-year-old from Conyers, Georgia, was on the Argonauts practice squad in 2023. He signed with the Argonauts on October 2, 2023.

Before Toronto, Marshall signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He would later sign with the Seattle Seahawks playing two preseason games. He was targeted twice but made no catches.

Collegiately, Marshall played three seasons at Louisville (2018-21) with 36 catches for 544 yards and one touchdown in 36 games for the Cardinals. Then, he transferred to Buffalo in 2022 with 64 catches for 837 yards, nine touchdowns, and one kick return for 19 yards in 13 games for the Bulls.

Leonard Johnson is six foot and weighs 194 pounds. The 25-year-old from Hayden, Alabama, signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but was released on July 25, 2023. In 2022, he was training for the NFL Draft but tore his ACL in the process.

Collegiately, Johnson played four seasons at Duke (2018-21) with 165 tackles (118 solo, 47 assists), 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, six interceptions, one touchdown, 24 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 47 games for the Blue Devils. In the 2018 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl against Temple, Johnson made six tackles as the Blue Devils blew out the Owls 56-27.

Chris Steele is six foot one and weighs 190 pounds. The 23-year-old from Bellflower, California, made two tackles (2 solo) in three preseason games for the Seattle Seahawks in 2023.

Before Seattle, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders on May 17, 2023. He made five tackles in one preseason game against the B.C. Lions and spent several weeks on the practice squad. After Calgary, he returned to Seattle. Before Seattle, Steele signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and spent the season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Steele played three seasons at USC (2019-21) with 94 tackles (62 solo, 32 assists), three tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, 15 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 29 games for the Trojans. He was named Second Team All-Pac 12 in 2020 and a two-time Second Team All-Pac 12 by Phil Steele (2020-21).
