Matthew Brown scores two goals leading the Royals to victory

Reading's Matt Brown scored two goals including an overtime goal against Worcester on Saturday night.

The Reading Royals (11-13-1-1) continued their three-game series with the Worcester Railers (12-11-3-2) from the Santander Arena.

At 5:55 of the first period, Worcester’s Daylan Kuefler put the Railers up 1-0 with assists by Zach White and Joey Cipollone. Then at 9:21, Reading’s Tag Bertuzzi tied the game 1-1 with assists from Ryan Chyzowski and Mason Millman. The Royals had 11 shots on goal but the game remained tied 1-1 after one period of play.

At 15:07 of the second period, Worcester’s John Copeland put the Railers back up 2-1 with assists by Blade Jenkins and Keeghan Howdeshell. Then with 57 seconds left of the second period, Reading’s Shane Sellar scored a power play tying the game 2-2 with assists by Nicolas Ouellet and Matt Brown. Reading had 13 shots on goal but the game remained tied 2-2 after two periods of play.

At 5:58 of the third period, Reading’s Matt Brown put the Royals up 3-2 with assists by Shane Sellar and Ryan Chyzowski. However, at 14:10, Worcester’s Blade Jenkins scored a power play goal tying the game again 3-3 with assists from Anthony Repaci and Anthony Callin.

The Royals had 13 shots on goal but the game remained tied 3-3 heading into overtime. At 3:18 in overtime, Reading’s Matt Brown scored the game-winning goal for a 4-3 win with an assist by Tag Bertuzzi.

The Royals had 38 shots on goal, committed five penalties for ten minutes, went 1 for 4 on the power play, and Parker Gahagen made 30 saves off 33 shots.
