Reading Royals end 2023 with a loss to Worcester

The Reading Royals (11-14-1-1) concluded a three-game series with the Worcester Railers (13-11-3-2) from the Santander Arena to close out 2023.

At 11:53 of the first period, Worcester’s Joey Cipollone scored a power play goal putting the Railers up 1-0 with assists by Quinn Ryan and Ashton Calder. The Royals had 11 shots on goal but trailed 1-0 after one period of play.

After a scoreless second period in which the Royals had 15 shots on goal, Reading tied the game 1-1 at 4:31 by Matt Brown with an assist from Shane Sellar. At 10:23, Worcester’s Ashton Calder scored a power play goal that made it 2-1 with assists by Connor Welsh and Anthony Repaci. The Royals had seven shots on goal and went on to lose to the Railers by the final score of 2-1.

The Royals had 33 shots on goal, committed three penalties, went 0 for 1 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 14 saves off 26 shots.
