Reading Royals edges Idaho on Friday night

The Reading Royals (13-14-1-1) continued their three-game series on Friday night at the Idaho Central Arena against the Idaho Steelheads (22-9-0-1).

After a scoreless first period in which the Royals had seven shots on goal, they took a 1-0 lead at 5:32 of the second period by Ryan Chyzowski with an assist from Brayden Guy. The Royals had eight shots on goal and led 1-0 after two periods of play.

At 8:30 of the third period, Reading’s Yvan Mongo extended the Royals lead to 2-0 with an assist by Matt Brown. Thirty-five seconds later, Idaho’s Jack Becker scored to cut the Royals lead down to 2-1 with assists by Matt Register and Sam Sternschein. The Royals had eight shots on goal and defeated the Steelheads by the final score of 2-1.

The Royals had 23 shots on goal, committed three penalties, went 0 for 5 on the power play, and Parker Gahagen made 40 saves off 41 shots.
