Philadelphia gets embarrassed to end the season in New Jersey

The Philadelphia Eagles (11-6) concluded the 2023 season on Sunday evening against the New York Giants (6-11) from MetLife Stadium.

The Eagles had a chance to win the NFC East plus get the number two seed in the NFC with a win plus a Cowboys loss. Unfortunately, the Eagles did not show up and lost to the New York Giants by the final score of 27-10. The Eagles finish the season losing five of their last six games after starting the season 10-1.

The Eagles were shut out in the first half and scored all of their points in the second half. The Dallas Cowboys are the NFC East champions and clinched the number two seed in the NFC. The Eagles lost defensive back Sydney Brown in what is being reported as a torn ACL.

Philadelphia had 299 yards on offense. Quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 7 of 16 passes (44%) for 55 yards, one interception, and two carries for four yards.

Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 13 of 20 passes (65%) for 148 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and six carries for 46 yards. The lone touchdown the Eagles scored was Mariota throwing for 16 yards to Quez Watkins.

Philadelphia running back Kenneth Gainwell had seven carries for 62 yards, and wide receiver Quez Watkins led the receivers with eight catches for 93 yards and one touchdown.

Philadelphia’s defense made 75 tackles, four tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, two sacks, one interception, and three pass breakups. Philadelphia kicker Jake Elliott made one field goal for 36 yards.

New York had 415 yards on offense. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor completed 23 of 32 passes (72%) for 297 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and eight carries for 38 yards. Running back Saquon Barkley had 18 carries for 46 yards, two touchdowns, and two catches for 51 yards, and wide receiver Darius Slayton made five catches for 62 yards, and one touchdown.

New York’s defense made 63 tackles, five tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, five sacks, eight pass breakups, and four turnovers.
